About This Game

Treadshift is an off-road trials game drawn in 3D but played side-on, so the only things you control are the throttle, the brake and how the truck lands. Thirty courses climb from green foothills through a copper canyon, a marsh, a frozen pass and a dark volcanic ridge, and each one is built around a contraption: bridges that sag, beams that tip, rafts that bob, lifts, lock gates, turbine blades and hammers. A clean run lasts well under half a minute, and five Energy Cells on every course feed a garage of upgrades.

How to Play

Goal: Bring the truck to the glowing beacon at the end of each of the 30 courses in one piece, then go back for the gold time and all five Energy Cells.

  1. 01Press Play: a first visit starts course 1 straight away, later visits pick up at the next open course.
  2. 02Hold D, → or the GAS pedal to roll; the clock only starts with that first press.
  3. 03Hold A, ← or BRAKE to slow down, and keep holding once stopped to back up for another run-up.
  4. 04Watch each machine before you commit: lamps on gates and hammers, the sweep of a turbine, the bob of a raft.
  5. 05In the air, ease off the gas to keep the nose down; from course 13, tap Space or PULSE just before the tyres touch.
  6. 06Cross the beacon line upright. R starts the course again at any time.

Gameplay Features

  • 30 handmade courses in five worlds, each opened by clearing the one before
  • Bridges, seesaws, crumbling planks, rafts, lifts, gates, turbines and hammers
  • Gas-and-brake driving with real suspension and air control, no steering
  • Landing Pulse button from course 13 to soften hard touchdowns
  • Three trucks and nine garage upgrades paid for with Energy Cells
  • Big pedals for touch screens, full keyboard play, progress kept on your device

Tips & Strategies

  • The orange planks give you well under a second after the first touch, so arrive with speed and keep your foot down until you are across.
  • A hammer only hurts while its head is on the way down or resting on the road; park about four metres back and leave as it rises.
  • Bounce pads throw the truck high. Release the gas right after take-off, or the truck keeps rotating backwards and lands on its roof.
  • Ice leaves the tyres almost no bite: short presses of gas move you, and braking needs three or four truck lengths.
  • Turbine blades turn in your direction of travel. Start from a stop when one blade hangs straight down and you will pass under level blades.
  • Gold is about clean lines, not risk: most stages are won by never stopping on a moving part and never waiting longer than one cycle.

Supported Devices

Treadshift runs in desktop browsers with a keyboard or mouse and on phones and tablets with large touch pedals that accept two thumbs at once. It plays in landscape and portrait and needs WebGL.

Treadshift FAQ

Is there a steering button in Treadshift?

No. The truck always drives along the course, so the game is all about throttle and brake. Gas pushes it forward, brake slows it and then reverses, and in the air the same two pedals tilt the truck: gas lifts the nose, brake lowers it. Learning that tilt is the key to clean landings.

What is the Landing Pulse in Treadshift and do I need it?

It is a button that appears from course 13. Pressed in the air just before touchdown, it stiffens the suspension for about a third of a second and takes 30 percent off the bounce and spin of the landing, then recharges in under a second. You never need it: every course can be finished without it.

Why did my run end on the bridge with planks in Treadshift?

Those planks fall a fraction of a second after a tyre touches them, between 0.6 and 0.7 seconds depending on the course. If you crawl or stop, the plank under you drops and the truck goes into the river. Hit them at speed and they fall behind you instead.

How do the three trucks in Treadshift differ?

The Scout is the all-rounder you start with. The Crawler, unlocked by clearing course 10, has 18 percent more grip and 15 percent more torque, which helps on mud and ice. The six-wheeled Hauler arrives after course 20 with 30 percent more torque and extra weight that keeps it steady on bridges.

What can I buy with Energy Cells in Treadshift?

Engine, Tyres and Suspension upgrades in the garage, four levels each at 70, 130, 210 and 310 Cells. A course pays 5 Cells per Energy Cell collected plus a medal bonus the first time you reach bronze, silver or gold, and even a failed run lets you keep up to 10 Cells.

How is the gold medal decided in Treadshift?

Each course has its own gold time, from 9 seconds on the first course to 30 on the longest. Finish within it for gold, within 1.3 times it for silver, and slower for bronze. Turning on Landing Assist in the settings makes the game pulse for you but limits the medal to silver.
