About This Game

Sunset Coastal Drive is a retro pseudo-3D racing game: a red convertible that accelerates by itself, three lanes, and a clock that only checkpoints refill. Across five stages from Palm Beach to Sunset Pier the cruising speed climbs from 210 to 258 km/h while traffic doubles, so the skill is reading lanes early and choosing when to burn nitro — boosting turns crates and cars from hazards into points.

How to Play

Goal: Reach Sunset Pier through all five stages before the clock hits zero, without losing all three lives.

  1. 01Hit boost within 0.3 s of GO for a perfect start: 140 km/h and 2.2 s of turbo.
  2. 02Steer between the three lanes with the arrows or A and D; the car keeps its speed on its own.
  3. 03Collect coins, cash stacks and money bags in quick succession to build the combo.
  4. 04Hold boost to burn nitro and smash through crates, barricades and cars instead of crashing.
  5. 05At each pit stop, spend coins on repairs, engine, a bigger nitro tank or a shield, then drive on.

Gameplay Features

  • Five stages: Palm Beach to Sunset Pier
  • Nitro that smashes obstacles for points
  • Pit stops with four upgrades between stages
  • Combo up to x5 for chained pickups
  • Plays in portrait or landscape
  • Three-star rating on every trip

Tips & Strategies

  • Carry time, not just speed: every second left at the finish is worth 100 points, and unused checkpoint time rolls over to the next stage.
  • Boost needs 8 in the gauge to start and burns 34 a second, so keep a reserve when a wall of crates comes into view instead of draining it early.
  • Pickups count for the combo only when less than 2 s apart; the 16th in a row reaches x5, so stay in the lane with the coin trail.
  • Boosting drives straight over oil, which otherwise spins the car for 0.9 s; from Harbor Town on, save a burst for dark puddles.
  • A 50-coin Shield is the cheapest life insurance at the pit stop before the busier last two stages.

Supported Devices

Sunset Coastal Drive works in desktop browsers with a keyboard and on phones and tablets with touch: hold either side of the screen to steer, the lightning button to boost and the red button to brake. It plays in portrait or landscape.

Sunset Coastal Drive FAQ

How long is a full run of Sunset Coastal Drive?

The clock starts at 48 seconds and the four checkpoints add 40, 40, 40 and 42, so the base clock for the whole trip is 210 seconds. Clock bubbles on the road add 6 seconds each, and the timer pauses while you are in a checkpoint or the pit stop.

What does nitro do in Sunset Coastal Drive?

Holding boost adds 170 km/h and makes the car safe from crates, barricades, rocks, cones and traffic: you smash obstacles for 150 points and cars for 300. The gauge starts at 30 of 100, needs 8 to fire and refills from money, near misses and Nitro bubbles.

Which upgrades are worth buying in Sunset Coastal Drive?

The pit stop after each of the first four stages sells Repair (+1 life, 70 coins), Engine (+15 km/h, 140 then 200), Nitro tank (+40 capacity and a refill, 100 then 160) and Shield (50). Engine and Nitro tank stop at two levels each.

How does Sunset Coastal Drive get harder?

Each stage raises the cruising speed, from 210 km/h at Palm Beach to 258 km/h at Sunset Pier, and traffic grows from 5 to 10 cars. Cliffside Pass adds the sharpest curves and hills, oil slicks begin at Harbor Town and Neon Boulevard is lined with boost pads.

How many lives do you get in Sunset Coastal Drive?

Three. Hitting a crate, barricade, rock or car while not boosting and without a shield costs one, cuts your speed to 35% and resets the combo, followed by 1.6 seconds of safety. Repair bubbles and the pit stop Repair give a life back.

What do you need for three stars in Sunset Coastal Drive?

Finish at the pier, crash no more than once and collect 70% of the money on the road. The money star counts what you pick up, not what you keep, so spending coins at pit stops never costs it, and hits absorbed by a shield or smashed with nitro are not crashes.
